Minimally Invasive Dentistry
Minimally invasive dentistry (MID) is a philosophy of dental care concerned with the early identification of disease, factors contributing to the disease, intervention to slow down or stop the disease, and, if needed, restorative treatment. The goal of MID is to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible focusing on prevention, remineralization, and minimal restorative interventions. Patient-level interventions attempt to establish a healthy mineralization balance and use chronic disease management approaches including patient and family engagement to facilitate sustainable behavior changes at home, dietary counseling aimed at reducing the frequency of carbohydrate consumption, and oral hygiene instructions. Here at EPD we use brush-on medicines to help remineralize and rebuild your natural tooth structure!
Dr. Jess is passionate about MID and would love to discuss it as an option for your child, especially as it may prevent the need for sedation dentistry.
